The Wesson Group Honors and Preserves a Local Community in Cohocton, NY

Updated: Apr 5

In June 2023, The Wesson Group’s Baron Winds Wind Farm Team, based in Cohocton, NY, volunteered at The Cohocton Historical Society and The Loon Lake Preserve to enhance their natural landscape and give back to the community. We selected these projects due to their integration with the community, preserving history, and bettering the environment. Both projects consisted of hands-on landscaping and collaboration to ensure the plants and trees selected would be native to the area and low maintenance for the members.

The Cohocton Historical Society’s Larrowe House is a staple in the community and hosts the Fall Foliage Festival annually in October. They provide tours of the historic house and work diligently to preserve the history of their town. The Baron Winds Wind farm team dedicated hours to pulling weeds, planting shrubs, and mulching around the house. Our collaborative efforts resulted in making them easier to maintain for the Society’s members. President of The Cohocton Historical Society, Nancy Freelove, stated, “I can’t thank you enough times! The gardens and shrubs look amazing. Great choices for the new plants.”

The Loon Lake Wetland Preserve was founded in the Spring 2018 by community members who wanted to preserve and protect the natural landscape. The Preserve consists of walking trails and a gazebo that hosts wellness classes and events for the community. We collaborated with members to select native species that would contribute to ecological diversity. Species native to New York included Red Buds, Crab Apples, River Birch, and Dogwood, each chosen for their ability to thrive in the Preserve’s unique environment. Erich Busch, Board Member, stated “It’s wonderful to have donations of this size, ensuring the trees will thrive, and thank you to your team for planting them”.

One of the best parts of having projects in the areas we live in is being able to give back to our communities. In doing so, we continued our commitment to preserving the beauty of nature and our legacy of environmental care, which the community will enjoy for generations to come. We are grateful to all The Wesson Group team members who showed up and participated in these efforts. And we are proud to be members of the communities of Cohocton, NY.
